Artists Reception: Friday August 21, 2015 6-9pm

August 21 - August 29, 2015

Summer Hours: Saturdays 12pm-5pm and by private appointment

Melanie Flood Projects is pleased to host Eight Takes, a group exhibition offering a glimpse into the rigorous practices of the ever-shifting emerging artist community of Portland. Ranging in disciplines from complex psychedelic video installation to large scale deconstructed photography exploring themes of death, identity, information overload & the landscape, Eight Takes features the work of Emily Wobb, John Whitten, Erin Mallea, Lara Kim, Genevieve Goffman, Kello Goeller, Brittney Connelly & Travis Beardsley. This exhibition is an invitation for the public to connect with the process and exports of a group of artists who have met and critiqued each other's work every Monday for the past four months as part of Prequel’s inaugural season of programming.

About Prequel:

Prequel is a juried artist incubator open to all visual artists (from painter to performer) which ran from May 9th through August 8th, 2015 at no cost to its selected artists. The program is all about the structuring and support of local artists’ formative post-graduation years. The name Prequel alludes to the point that each participant will have already made a substantial amount of work prior to the program and will build on this work to find out what core concepts and career choices are most relevant to his or her artistic narrative. Prequel is unique because participants are expected to continue making and critiquing new independent and collaborative work while also building their professional development skills. Prequel is funded in part by The Andy Warhol Foundation of Visual Arts and Calligram Foundation/Allie Furlotti via Portland Institute for Contemporary Art's Precipice Fund.
